Los Angeles has no shortage of hotels, from the simplest to the most extravagant, yet, on the side of West Hollywood, in a small alley hides a magical place called the Petit Ermitage, not far from the London Hotel and its rooftop.
Here is my opinion on the Petit Ermitage hotel which for me is one of the best hotels in Los Angeles, and I’ll tell you why.
The rooms
The journey back in time begins as soon as you enter the hotel, but it takes on its full meaning once you are in your room. A trip to the 50’s? I am not an expert in decoration but the decorations, the light, the perfume… a whole which plunges us in another time.
The atmosphere is zen, we feel like at home and this is the goal of this luxury hotel: Nothing ultra-modern and impersonal, here we want to spend several days and forget the time.
The rooms offer several products and services, including:
- USB alarm clock
- A clothes steamer (easier than an iron in my opinion)
- Bathrobes
- A refrigerator (stocked with products from the minibar)
- Face and body products including the famous Santal 33 shower gel from Le Labo
- A kitchenette with a table for lunch
- A free bottle of red or white wine
- A giant flat screen
- Air conditioning of course!
The pool and the rooftop of the Petit Ermitage
This is for me the strong point of the hotel! A very large rooftop offering at the same time a swimming pool, a place to relax, to sunbathe or to have a drink, and a restaurant that gives us the impression to be lost in a forest.
The pool is open 24 hours a day and the water is heated so that hotel guests can swim all year round. It must be said that the weather is often nice in Los Angeles, even if in winter the temperature drops sharply in the evening.
What you can do on this rooftop:
- Swim, of course
- Sunbathing all day on a big bed with cushions and pool towels
- Spend the evening with candles and admire the stars, and a nice blanket for the more chilly will be brought to you
- Order cocktails with or without alcohol, both are delicious
- A nice wine and champagne list from all over the world… I tasted a rosé wine from Côte de Provence on my first day
- Have breakfast, lunch or dinner directly at the pool on your bed
Please note: It is forbidden to film or take pictures or even make Facetime calls to respect the privacy of other guests, I had to get up at 6am to take the pictures before the world arrived.
The breakfast
It is served from 8 am every morning and 2 options are available to you:
The continental breakfast
It is included in the price of your room, for 2 people, and offers a hot drink and a basket of pastries, toast and slices of cake (the chocolate cake was divine). It’s a pity that the glass of orange juice is not included, to be paid in addition at the price of 6$ before taxes and tip.
Breakfast à la carte
If the proposed basket does not suit you, you can order something else. The menu offers a selection of omelettes, pancakes…
It is necessary to count approximately 30$ per person for this type of breakfast.
The restaurant
Ready to escape again? Located one more below the pool, welcome to the “garden” restaurant of the Petit Ermitage hotel.
During my dinner, I let myself be tempted by a ceviche and truffle fries, all for less than 30$, for this sublime place it is absolutely not excessive. To accompany my meal, I took the same rosé that I had tasted at the pool the same day.
Even if the hotel is located in the middle of West Hollywood, this restaurant allows you to take a break and put you in a bubble the time of a dinner.
It is possible for people who are not guests of the hotel to have lunch or dinner there, but you have to reserve.
The menu of the restaurant and the rooftop is the same, here are some pictures of the niçoise salad of my lunch, of the year of the restaurant where the tables are arranged on the 2 sides, and of my dessert: Caramelized banana with its chocolate cake and hazelnuts, proposed at 12$, a delight for the gourmands!
General opinion on the hotel Petit Ermitage
I spent 3 magical days, I didn’t even want to leave the hotel to have lunch outside. During these 3 days, I totally de-stressed, the staff is adorable, the prices are very correct for this kind of chic place, and you really feel like at home despite the presence of other guests, I definitely recommend this hotel!
The price of a night varies between 200€ and 330€ depending on the type of room and the season.
