8. Go for a walk with your passport
But what an idea! A passport is used to pass the customs, nothing more! On tour groups, I read everyday people in distress because they lost their passport during their holidays, and there the holidays are quickly ruined! Put your passport in the locker of your hotel room and do not take it out until the day of departure.
In case of loss, you must contact the emergency service of your consulate in the US to obtain authorization to enter your country.
