I’m a man in a hurry, a man in a hurry! This cult song from Noir Désir illustrates our current lifestyle. Yes, we are in a hurry, so much in a hurry that we don’t have time to take care of ourselves, yet we need to moisturize our face when we are men! And yes, guys!
And yet, it is enough to learn a little more and the daily gestures to moisturize our skin become simple and fast. Follow the guide, I’ll help you to look good!
To moisturize your face, understand your skin
Let’s go back to school…
Our skin is subjected to numerous external aggressions on a daily basis: pollution, cold, stress, sometimes drunken nights out…
And yet, it is the envelope of our body, the largest and most visible part.
It is divided into 3 layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the hypodermis. These layers form a real protective barrier for the body against its environment.
The epidermis, the superficial layer of the skin
This is the most superficial layer of the skin and also the thinnest (2 to 3 mm). It could also be called the shield of the body, because it protects it from external aggressions. The epidermis has several hundred small pores, these small holes through which sweat and sebum (natural oil of the skin) will flow.
The dermis, intermediate layer of the skin
This is the layer that supports the epidermis. It is 10 to 40 times thicker than the epidermis. It protects the vascular network and the nerve fibers. The dermis contains, among other things, collagen, elastin and water-absorbing proteins that keep the skin hydrated.
The hypodermis or the deep layer
This is the deepest and thickest layer of the skin (up to 3 cm). The hypodermis is mostly composed of fat. It protects the skin against temperature changes and plays an important role in protecting the muscular system, protecting the bones and protecting the organs from possible external trauma.
It is essential to know your skin type in order to find the right care to moisturize it
Types of skin
Dry skin
This is skin that is tight, dull and rough. It produces less sebum and therefore does not retain enough moisture to keep the face moisturized.
Oily skin
This is skin that overproduces sebum. It shines and its pores are visible, as in my case.
Combination skin
It is a skin which presents a mixture of the two. On the T-zone (forehead, nose, chin), it will be oilier, the cheeks and the rest of the face will be drier.
Normal skin
This is healthy, balanced skin that is neither too oily nor too dry. This skin has a soft and smooth appearance.
Now that you know your skin type, you can choose the right skin care products for your face and follow the steps below.
Build up YOUR routine to moisturize your face
In order to maintain a good hydration of your face, it is important to build up a daily “skin routine” that is simple and quick. Here are some steps to follow:
- Clean your face with a gel adapted to your skin type (see above) – Rinse thoroughly – Dry.
- Apply your cream, also adapted to your skin type.
- Perform a light circular massage, if you have time.
- Repeat these same steps in the evening.
A few more tips for perfect facial moisturizing
- Take an interest in aloe vera gel, the must-have facial moisturizer.
- Pamper your face once a week with a deep facial cleansing, a moisturizing face mask, a facial exfoliation or scrub…
- Protect yourself from the sun by applying an appropriate sun protection.
- Choose a moisturizing face cream texture that is more fluid in summer and thicker in winter to protect your face from the cold.
- Also think about oils like Diptyque infused oil and organic moisturizers.
